“Running out of energy”

Andrei Montellano

Today on Feb. 19, I read two different books. It wasn’t exactly read two, more like finished one and read another.

They were books in the Wimpy Kid series. ‘The Getaway’ and ‘Hard Luck’ were both great books, they both tell the recollection of a pre-teen boy in 6th grade dealing with the struggles of life in a comedic and relatable way. I’m not gonna say anything for both of these books for the sake of not spoiling any of it.

The books were pretty well-structured, albeit relatable and kind of true for some people. His trips and adventures usually drop out of the rails and into the cliff as bad luck follows them all over.

The characters are interesting in a way that makes some of us just feel for the things Greg feels about his family and school.

The people in this text and their attitudes serve the text appropriately, elaborating on what he feels for these people and what they feel about Greg. The children are depicted as rowdy and unruly, the teenagers as unpredictable and crazy, the adults as controlling and persistently weird, pretty much how Greg sees it all. But even then, he does figure out why they do this, and sometimes, it’s pretty nice.

Overall, these books were pretty crazy, and hilarious.

The Use of Spirituals for Slaves

In the 1800's when slaves were still prevalent, slaves used to sing songs for a few reasons:

- To keep their spirits up

- To give them hope

- For churches and funerals, weddings if they were allowed

- ...and to relay secret messages to help them escape.

Several of these songs were used to send secret messages to help them escape, like 'Wade in the Water'. Wade in the Water was a song that relayed a secret message for the slaves to escape by swimming through the rivers and oceans. They escaped using several routes to get away from the states, to get to other parts of the country or just leave the country altogether.

The most well-known savior of slaves during the 1800's was Harriet Tubman, an ex-slave who escaped and now has her own network of escape routes. She sent her spies in as slaves and had them escort the slaves into safehouses and hiding spots along the routes.

The slavery of black people continued until sometime in the 1960's when Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in his hotel room, and the slavery of black people was abolished. Some people still never accepted it, but they now have rights. They now do as they please, as long as they followed the law. These songs became known as the messages of hope, and an inspiration for their freedom.

Here's a map of the slave trades and the Underground Railroad. There's an extra: https://www.google.co.nz/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1e7C1IVggflexwtq-5ibvWLI402qkQOFJ&usp=sharing

What Metal I'd Be

If I were a metal element I’d like to be tungsten and my symbol is W.

My atomic number is 74 which means I have 74 protons in my nucleus and 74 electrons around my nucleus.
At room temperature (20C) I will be a solid.
My melting point (the temperature when I turn from solid to liquid) is 3,422 °C
My boiling point (the temperature when I change from liquid to gas) is 5,555 °C
I was first discovered by Juan Jose and Fausto Elhuyar in 1781
I am found in nature as ore minerals in wolframite, scheelite and ferberite.
My uses to humans are in uses for hard materials because of my high melting point, alloys because of my hardness and heat resistance, permanent magnets, and uses for armaments and as a substitute for gold. There are more uses for me.
Some interesting things about me is that my highest production rate is in China and an important part in the Rwandan economy.

Tips on Cybersafety

This is a cyber safety tips blog. It's going to be simply short and not at all confusing.

In the Internet, your privacy is one of the most vital things to be protected. However, there are people who might trick you into sharing your most valuable security bypasses and you might accidentally weaken your own security. You might share the wrong thing to the wrong people or on the wrong place, and that can get anyone into some big trouble. You also don't want people to just randomly access your account willy-nilly. Worst thing is, you don't want to break anything either. If you want to keep everything more secure, do these:

1. Make sure to set up some sort of security measures; such as a fingerprint scanner or a password.

2. Don't share your passwords or show your identity to anyone on the internet.

3. Send things only to those who are supposed to see it.

4. Update your passwords every now and then.

5. Never click on any link/image anywhere, especially via email unless you told and know that person sent it to you. Always be suspicious!
6. Keep a keen eye for anything that could indicate that you are being scammed, or getting a virus.

The safety of your Internet privacy and personal data should be your top priority. Keep yourself protected and flexible!

Cybersecurity

Hello, and welcome back to this oh-so wonderful life of ours.

Today, in DTE class, we've learned about cybersecurity and how to protect our privacy. Just now, we were told to make a Canva poster about what we took out of it and put it into a blog post. Here it is:

What I also got from that session were ways on how I could be hacked and ways that I could protect myself and my data from being taken and spam emailed. Also, at the bottom of the poster, the text sounded, to me, something from a dystopian cyber-propaganda pamphlet, so I guess that's that.
