Passion Project Reflection

Many weeks ago for Wananga class, we were given the Passion Projects prompt. We got to choose to do an activity of our choice, and an extra choice in case our original choice wasn't taken. I was able to do my project with some friends, to work on the School Garden. With Mark, we were able to get a decent amount of progress in.

We planned a lot of things for the garden, but never got to them because of time constraints. We had the idea of adding some worm farms and some compost bins, and an unused shipping container for one of the buildings inside the area of the garden. Not much was changed in the plan, as we hadn't gotten that far ahead.

We dug up some bark and dirt for the dirtbeds and had some of the juniors help us with Mark's help. A few times, some had spilled out because we didn't have anything to seal the door shut with, but the wheelbarrow we used was still fine.

After that, we built a few more beds with some tools from the workshop. We used squares and measuring tape to know how much we needed to cut. Though loud, we got the pieces off and ready for assembly. With even more tools and some screws, we assembled a few of the beds and laid them according to the plan.

We continued this process for a while until October 27, where the projects have ended and our presentations were prepared.

I am happy about the progress we made on the gardens. Though the progress was not very significant, it was worth something, and I got to talk to new people and have fun with friends.
We all did our part in the project, there wasn't anyone who was dead weight.

All in all, I'd like to thank Mark Sowerby and the other juniors that helped us in the gardens, and my friends and teammates for doing their part. It was a lot of fun to do, but not something I'd willingly ask for.

Critical Literacy for my week

I may not have read a lot of things, but TV Tropes has supplied me with an endless amount of knowledge for me to read and waste my time on. Other than those, I've read just about nothing.

Sorry!

Term 2 Critical Literacy #1

 Book: Bullet Boys

Report made by Andrei Montellano made on May 10 2021

The 'Bullet Boys' book is a story about three teenage boys, Alex, Levi and Max. Alex is a gamekeeper, taught by his father. He is preferably the one on the very left. Levi is talkative and popular, but not very willing to use a gun, the one in the middle. Max is short-tempered and has a brother enlisted in the military, the one on the right.

Why are we/you reading this text?

- Because I wanted to read it for two reasons: I needed a book to read, and because I was interested in how the cover looked and such.

What genre does this text belong to?

- Judging from the content, and the cover above, it is a teen thriller book, full of suspense and introductory chapters.

Kahui bird info

Mohua. It is a kahui in Hornby High School, and a bird out in the wilderness. It is a small bird with yellow feathers, and is also endangered.

Their diet consists of small insects and worms, occasionally also some seeds that they can find. They migrate in numerous groups and sometimes, even migrate with groups of other birds.

Over the years, the Mohua population has declined from the hundred thousandths all the way down to the hundreths because of pests like stoats and rats killing them and eating the eggs. Nowadays, they are found in the South Islands and are a protected species because of its low population.

This is all of the information that I could find about the Mohua. I am sure there is more information about them, but unfortunately I am unable to find more.

“Running out of energy”

Andrei Montellano

Today on Feb. 19, I read two different books. It wasn’t exactly read two, more like finished one and read another.

They were books in the Wimpy Kid series. ‘The Getaway’ and ‘Hard Luck’ were both great books, they both tell the recollection of a pre-teen boy in 6th grade dealing with the struggles of life in a comedic and relatable way. I’m not gonna say anything for both of these books for the sake of not spoiling any of it.

The books were pretty well-structured, albeit relatable and kind of true for some people. His trips and adventures usually drop out of the rails and into the cliff as bad luck follows them all over.

The characters are interesting in a way that makes some of us just feel for the things Greg feels about his family and school.

The people in this text and their attitudes serve the text appropriately, elaborating on what he feels for these people and what they feel about Greg. The children are depicted as rowdy and unruly, the teenagers as unpredictable and crazy, the adults as controlling and persistently weird, pretty much how Greg sees it all. But even then, he does figure out why they do this, and sometimes, it’s pretty nice.

Overall, these books were pretty crazy, and hilarious.
