The 'Coraline' Movie

So, on June 2, 2020, we watched a movie called Coraline. I'm not gonna spoil any aspect of the movie, but you can look for it if you want to This is gonna have spoilers anyway, so it's gonna happen anyway. Sorry about that!

The questions we were given and answered:
1.  5 plot points I remember:
  • Coraline and her family moves to Pink Palace Apartments.
  • She meets the residents of the apartments and around its vicinity.
  • She discovers a hidden door in the apartment, which was concealed with wallpaper.
  • She discovers the sinister secrets behind them, and escapes only to return again.
  • With the help of an artifact given by some of her neighbours, she defeats the loathsome beldam and frees the trapped spirits and her parents.
2. Characters:
    - Coraline Jones, the main character
    - Mel and Charlie Jones, her parents
    - Wyborne (Wybie) Lovat, one of her distant neighbours
    - Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, her downstairs neighbours and elderly actresses
    - Mr. Bobinsky, her upstairs neighbour and drunk, jumping-rat circus ringmaster and acrobatic
    - The ghost children, Ms. Lovat's missing sister
    - Other Parents, opposite versions of her parents: Other Mother (The Beldam) and Other Father
    - Other Neighbours
    - Ms. Lovat, Wyborne's grandmother
    - The cat

(other missing questions because i wasn't quick enough)

    Notes:
Opening Scene:
       - Music: sounds childish; creepy, starts quiet
       - Lyrics: "dreaming" is repeated, humming

Setting:
Place: Pink Palace Apartments - Real World
Music: changes to increase tension - faster, louder, minor
Coraline: sassy, moody, stubborn, curious, needy, bright colours - blue hair, yellow jacket & boots
         - main character - makes us focus, shows she's different from those in the real world
       Colour/Lighting:
Colour: dull, grey, boring, dark, bland, tinted, makes the 'real' house feel depressing, crusty and old, not a place Coraline wants to be in
Real Parents - dull, workaholics, don't have time for Coraline, not happy, depressed, tired; sleep deprived

       The 'Other' World:
Colour/Lighting: bright, vibrant, warm, welcoming - makes it seem safe, inviting and safe, Coraline no longer stands out
Other Parents: fun, active, shows Coraline attention, energetic, cooked her nice food, looks almost entirely different than her 'real' parents; they seem happy and healthy
Music: doesn't match what we're seeing, a bit spooky, slow to medium, minor, quiet

        The 'Real' Neighbours:
Colour: greys, dark, mournful, sad, colours - palette, foggy, faded, run down, dusty, sticky
Lighting: dark/gloomy - inside house, cold light, shabby, dark, poor
Music:
- bland background, medium pace
- Latin style, upbeat, movement, used to be dated
Setting: forest appears dead, house is old, rustic, run down, basement, theatre room
Characters:
- Mr. Bobinsky - Russian, 'drunk', quite awkward, a weirdo
- Miss Spink and Miss Forcible - they argue, opposites but shares same interests, actress, old fashioned, confident, attention-seekers
Coraline doesn't like them but they're better than nothing.

         The 'Other' Neighbours:
Colour:
- bright, light, friendly, welcoming
- good dark
Lighting:
- warm light - orange/yellow
- warm light- spotlights are bright
Music:
- loud, joyful, circus music, playful, minor
- energetic, brass
Setting:
- garden is alive, house is painted/looks new, apartments looked colourful, clean, organised
- theater, grand, large, posh, in good condition
Characters:
- Mr. Bobinsky - clean/tidy/done-up, healthy blue, much nicer, had better speech, got Coraline's name correct
- Miss Spink and Miss Forcible - transforms into their younger selves - young, thin, attractive, appears to be extremely talented actresses/acrobats
Coraline likes them, is enthusiastic to have them around as neighbours.

        The Beldam:
Colours: dark, green, colourful, purple/pink, neons that show in the dark, fades to white
Lighting: dark, cold, unsafe, horrific
Music: slower, quiet, menacing, creepy, spooky, 'Other' world, suspicious
Settings: chocolate & furniture were beetles, sinister, transformed from the perfect home to a spider web; polluted
